ALT/AST Results - High Cholesterol Message Board

Got my results back from my cholesterol test and everything looks great. HDL-42, LDL- 43, and Triglyerides- 86. Probelm is that I see that my ALT and AST are elevated to 60 and the report shows normal between the ranges of (0 to 35). I haven't talked to the Dr. yet..but is that elevatation dangerous? I know it means that my liver is being damaged someway? I am on the highest does of Crestor 40mg. I am 38 years old with heart disease so I know why I am on such a high dose..the Dr. is trying to really slow down the progression of my CAD. I just in the long run dont want to damage my liver. I need it to live also...lol. Anyone have any insight into all this?

Hi- as no one has responded I thought I would. I don't really know about liver enzymes. Mine were slightly raised recently. By about 4-8 pts. on each the dr. was concerned and is going to re-test soon. From what I have read drugs can affect the liver reading so your doc would look at that. Your numbers are pretty elevated not huge but if I were you I would get the doc on this.Good luck!

Sounds like your Crestor dose is too high. Your muscles are taking strain, hence the high liver enzymes. And, with LDL of 43, your cholesterol is too low.

Like osteo said, your numbers are elevated but not seriously so. If I were you, I would snap the Crestors in half and try 20 mg. for about a month before your next blood draw to see if you can get a suitably low LDL...I think <70 is good enough to reverse plaque buildup and I think that's around what you'll get.
