Nope... not a problem at all. It's very typical. I've been taking 3000 mg for upwards of 1.5 years, and I still get occational flushing (the symtoms you have described). I keep wondering if certain types of food cause this... like maybe eating sweets or something shortly before I take Niaspan.
In any case, this fluhsing does happen occationally and there is nothing to worry about. It does keep getting better... the flushing gets less and less.
I would take the 45 minutes of flushing over the pain and long term side effects caused by statins any day of the week. At least you know the pain will subside in a short while.
You will get less noticeable flushing if you take the Niaspan only at bedtime. And you will get way better results taking it only at bedtime too.
