Why are they putting me on medication(crestor)? - High Cholesterol Message Board

Hi , my numbers are
total cholesterol 210
hdl=58
ldl 126
Are these numbers that bad , enough for medication?

The numbers don't look bad to me, but do you have other risk factors? Family history of heart disease? And did you get a breakdown of the LDL and HDL particle sizes?

If your triglycerides were elevated or your particle sizes lousy, I guess your doctor felt Crestor would help. If, you have no risk factors, triglycerides are normal, and particle sizes are good.... then no idea. Only thing slightly elevated is your LDL, if you use 100 as the 'normal' cutoff level.

I have no family history of heart disease and i dont have the breakdown of the ldl. I have brought my cholseterol down 22 points in 3 months, I figure in another 3 months It should be better, right now I have decided on not taking the medication.
