Hello there. Has anyone ever tried a combination of the following daily doses?

Niacin, 300 mg (3 x 100 mg doses)
Chromium, 200 mcg (2 x 100 mcg doses)
Lecithin, 3600 mg and;
flax seed oil 3-4 teaspoons per day

*** Niacin ONLY. NOT niacinamide (It doesn't work the same way). Also, don't use "sustained release niacin" since it has been related to liver toxicity. ***

My doctor is no idiot and when he suggested statins, I asked about this particular regimen. He smiled and said "Let's give it three months, then we will have you tested again". He put his prescription book away and wrote me out a test requisition dated a few months from now. He seems to think that the supplements along with exercise will do the trick. Oh yeah, he suggested a glass of fresh orange juice and a bowl of oatmeal every morning for breakfast. He said the oatmeal will help with weight control (food cravings through the morning) and since oatmeal is rich in niacin, help the cholesterol problem too. The orange juice (potassium) will help regulate blood pressure. He didn't recommend any other dietary changes since so little dietary cholesterol makes it into the bloodsteam anyway. Those with high cholesterol are making too much cholesterol in their own bodies, not eating too much of it.

I am keen to see how much of a drop I get this time. I did it before, about 5 years ago. Same regimen except I wasn't using flax seed oil. Regardless, my LDL dropped to 1/3 of it original level and the HDL went up quite significantly. I did all of this in 5 weeks and at the same time I lost 15 or so pounds. My exercise regimen was not hard...a bit of running 3-4 times a week and some weight lifting.

I don't want to try the statins...they are chemicals and they are expensive. I prefer the natural route. Anyway, if anyone else has had success with this route, let us know would ya?
