In early January, I began eating oatmeal with 1-2 tbs. flaxseed meal mixed in every day. I also took 20 mg. policosonol. Two months later, my total chol decreased by 7, LDL by 6, Trigs by 28, and HDL rose by 5. They might seem like a modest changes, but diet and exercise alone did nothing in the previous 5 months.
I think the combination was really beginning to help; unfortunately, I now realize I had undiagnosed hypothyroidism, and the flaxseed is a goitrogen and a cyanogen. The upshot is I poisoned myself with it. Bottom line, if you decide to try it, make sure your thyroid function is up to par. In otherwise healthy people, it's a beneficial food supplement.
