Suggestion on what to try next after RYR and Zocor?
I switched to nature plus extended release RYR after 40mg zocor gave me bad muscle pains. To my surprise, even RYR is giving me problem with sleeping and muscle aches. It is not as bad as zocor but I am liking it. But I am not sure where to go from here. Suggestions?
So here are the #s. 600mg RYR (stadardized 10mg lovastatin) dropped about 60 total points and zocor 40mg dropped about 120 total points. I am surprised by RYR as was taken at lower dosage and is a weaker drug but is half as effective as Zocor at 1/4 dosage.

LDL is most sensitive to what kind of dietary fats you eat. Trans-fats from hydrogenated oils tend to raise LDL while lowing HDL; avoid them. Saturated fats from fatty red meat, full fat milk, and coconut and palm oil also tend to raise LDL. However, unsaturated fats from other plant sources and fish can help lower LDL.
In addition, losing body fat can improve your LDL numbers and other health aspects.

I just started Niaspan, which I'm taking at about 5Pm. I will let you know if it lowers my cholesterol. It is a natural occurring vitamin in our diet, so I feel more comfortable taking it.

Hi VDO,
What period of time were you taking the RYR for, prior to Lipid tests?
quote:
"So here are the #s. 600mg RYR (stadardized 10mg lovastatin)"
END quote.
For info, the above statement is incorrect, as there are 10.2mg TOTAL monacolins in the product you have been taking, of which NONE are monacolin 'K' (chemical lovastatin.)
Have you also been taking 100mg Kaneka quality RYR, plus Omega 3, plus Allicin as per my initial RYR post on this forum?
These all work in combination with RYR to raise HDL, lower Trigs and assist the RYR to lower LDL-C and the COq10 protects muscles, the liver and also lowers blood pressure.
Although just under two hundred studies on RYR have never raised any muscle issues, that is not to say it cannot. If you have not been taking at least 100mg of premium quality COq10, then that could be the answer to your current muscle issues.
The poor quality of sleep could be down to anything really. If you didn't have this issue on Zocor, then RYR certainly would not cause this. Belly aches and mild headaches, yes.
