I've had side effect problems with all five statins I've taken. My cardiologist (a lipid specialist) pretty much refused to write me an Rx for Welchol because he said that even though it sometimes lowers LDL, it can often raise triglycerides bigtime in someone who already has high trigs. Mine have been in the 250-400 range for the twenty years, so the last thing I need is something that will make the numbers rise.
However, he did say that if your trigs are low or relatively normal, it;s okay to try Welchol because it doesn't make trigs rise in everyone who takes it.
