My doctor put me on 10 mg of Zetia and 10mg of Lipitor. My bad cholestrol previously had been 134. Now my readings ldl 57 hdl 80 don't know what trycl. were total cholestrol 157. I asked my doctor when he gave me the numbers and said on no that's great. Just want another opinion. Thanks
I didn't mention that I was on 10 mg of lipitor and bad cholestrol was still 134 and was then put on 20 mg and it did not come down, I was then put on 30 to no avail. He then went back to 10 mg of lipitor and added the zetia. First year the bad cholestrol was about 80 second year on this combination it was 57. My father died of a stroke due to high cholestrol and I take medication for high blood pressure, so I am at risk. Thanks for any in put
The most mentioned figure I have read is the TC figure of 160mg/dl. Below this 'line', is considered....too low, whether on or off medication.
But what about LDL in particular? Most of what I have seen about whether cholesterol can be too low focuses on total cholesterol, rather than any of the components (LDL, VLDL, HDL). Those studies which have been mentioned in the context of whether LDL can be too low involve statin-lowered LDL, not low LDL without drugs. Or is the latter rare enough that medical researchers are not concerned enough to look into it?
