I'm a 19 year old female going in to my second year of college. I went for a physical before heading to China for the summer and found out I have really high cholesterol. My doctor suggested a healthier diet and moderate exercise plan. My dad has high cholesterol, but I have been a year round athlete since middle school, workout 6 days a week, and eat generally healthy for most meals. Any advice as to how I can get this cholesterol in hand, or is it mainly genetics? Their advice is mostly incorporated into my daily life, not quite sure about what else to change to drop it a few points. I'd appreciate your help!!! Thanks!!

I agree we would need to know exactly where the problem is. Many folks can have a high total but be offset by a good HDL. If it is Trigs or LDL then another approach may be needed. Also there are some Drs. who get upset if your even slightly over the guidelines and there really maybe an easy fix or some don't even need fixing. Knowing the problem area, if there is one, would help us give you some advice.

I can't remember all the numbers because I got them at the beginning of the summer and left the sheet in the states. However I am positive my LDL was over 165 at least, possibly 170. Thanks for all the replies!
