The flush effect produces redness and itchiness of the skin. It can be very mild or intense depending on how you use the Niacin. If you're concerned, just start with a lower dose. Your doc is recommending the aspirin to offset the flush symptoms. This is a different way from how I use Niacin. Also, I want to have some flushing as this aids the lowering of HDL. But as I said, lower the dose if you're fearful. You could just cut the tab in half or even quarters to start and see how it goes, upping the dose as you feel more comfortable. The flush only lasts minutes, not hours.
