Triglycerides 2.0
Cholesteral 8.10
HDL 1.21
LDL 6.00
Cholesteral/HDL Ratio
I suspect I might be in danger of a heart attack, high blood pressure etc. Can anyone help me figure out how bad I currently am? My diet has changed within the past 60 days and I am trying to get more exercise...
The figures you quote look like mmol/L which are used in every country except the USA, where mg/dl is preferred. Your LDL is sky high and needs to be addressed urgently.
Your ratios I am afraid to tell you are......pretty bad.
Your TC/HDL ratio is 6.69 (Target <=4.5)
Your LDL/HDL ratio is 4.96 (Target <=3.2)
Your Trigs/HDL ratio is 1.65 (Target <=2.0) (This ratio is now considered to be the most accurate in determining CHD within 10 years.) Ratios of 4 is high, and 6 being very high risk.
There is an awful lot of information on the board from members who have successfully managed to greatly reduce their LDL significantly.
Excercise, brisk walking every day, no fatty foods, no cooking oil other than Extra Virgin Olive Oil. No red meat etc etc. Look into a Mediterranean type of diet.
Your LDL is excessively high. The target being <=3.0 mmol/L. So you have to reduce this by 50+% and it will be hard work.
I would try reducing your LDL naturally for six months and get retested. Read my posts on Natures Plus Red Yeast rice. I would start with 1200mgs of RYR per day and then reduce to 600mg daily afterwards.
If you are really worried, then you should see your doctor, who will probably prescribe you a statin drug. I'm surprised she/he hasn't already.
ps. Your TC should be <=5.0mmol/L. Your HDL =>1.0mmol/L and your Trigs <=1.5mmol/L
Good luck.
Yack.

Hi yackedar. I wish my doctor told me about these ratios. My TC is 273, triglecyrides 86, LDL 194 and HDL 62. According to these ratios I am fine but doctor wants to put me on statins. Are these ratios published anywhere. I'd like to show them to my doctor.
