| | Sky high Triglycerides questions
This was kind of a rude awakening for me but I'm still somehow not surprised. So lets get to the very ugly. Went in to get blood work done for my health insurance at work and needless to say it was bad. I guess a little about me. I don't eat right. I know I don't. I very much have a "meat and potatoes" diet. I also have a desk job where I sit on my *** all day. I don't exercise like I should and I drink. I'm 26 years old 6' tall and 260lbs.
Before I even went back to my follow up appointment to discuss these results I started taking fish oil (2000mg/day). I also started taking a multivitamin. I've cut out most red meat from my diet except for maybe once or twice a week and when I do i have small portions of it. I also started walking - moderate pace - 30min a day 5 days a week.
As far as alcohol consumption...I do my fair of drinking. I'm not pounding down a sixer every night but I usually drink pretty hard one day during the weekend (usually like 6 or 7 whiskey cokes OR 7 or 8 beers). Occasionally, I'll have a beer when I get home from work, but that's only like once a week IF that.
Before the test I was suppose to fast...I took my blood work first thing Thursday morning at 7 a.m. Wednesday night I drank two beers that was the last thing I had to drink all night except when I got up in the morning to have a glass of water before going in. Tuesday night I went out on date and we definitely put them back. I had like 8 beers that night. (Note: drinking like this is definitely not normal for me during the week) I'm pretty sure I did my fair share of drinking the previous Saturday. So with that being said: Saturday - decent amount of drinking. Tuesday night - Decent amount of drinking. Wednesday night - Two beers. Thursday morning - blood work.
Basically how fast do trig's and ALT/AST fluctuate based off of alcohol consumption? And, are my tests ridiculously high because I did some heavy drinking in the days leading up to to the test...
I know that my HDL is a little low too. (hence taking the fish oil and staying away from fatty foods)
All tests came back normal except....
Triglycerides = 661
HDL = 32
LDL = Can't be calculated because trig's are so high
AST = 35
ALT = 82
