Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me if excessive water retention? is normal with this drug. Yesterday I found taking the dog for a walk more demanding than usual and was even out of breath going up a very steep slope although we finished the 3 miles. When I got home I felt tired and my heart felt funny. I cant explain how it felt 'cos I'm not usually aware of it. I am trying hard to lose weight and decided to measure myself once a week last week. Yesterday my bust was 1 inch more my waist 2 inches more and my hips 1 inch. My ankles were the sameas the previous week! I also felt very tired in the afternoon. In the evening I felt better and my waist was back to last week's measurement! Today I had no trouble with the walk and only feel slightly fragile. The constant tingling of my face and head doesn't help,

Yes, edema is the number 1 objectionalble side effect with calcium channel blockers. Look for the very common "swollen ankle syndrdrome."
It seems to me the least desirable component to any drug designed for BP reduction since edema usually causes BP to rise.

Oh wait, like most BP drugs, they were designed to treat something else...

I was so worried about the way I felt last Wednesday that I ordered a blood pressure monitor-not the normal thing to do in the UK as we can get our blood pressure read by a nurse without cost. I had a real shockwhen I got it yesterday as my pulse was 110 and my BP higher than before I started any drugs. As the oedema decreased during the day so did the BP and pulse rate. I phoned the emergency doctor today to see if it was safe to just stop the pills and he said it was so on Tuesday when I see the doctor I will probably be on my 5th pill. Thanks for your input,
