Update on my high blood pressure - High & Low Blood Pressure Message Board

OK I've had:

- 24 hr urine test
- EKG
- Full blood test
- Urine test
- Chest x-ray
- Finger tip blood draw(like diabetics have to do) for blood sugar level.

What other tests can they possibly do? After over $700 or tests they still can't say what's causing the blood pressure problems.

One thing I did notice on the lab results for the urine test was ketones was "few", and looking around on the net some I found that this should be 0, could this point to anything? Some mucus was also found in the urine sample and EPI was "few" and urobilinogen was 0.2, I just am figuring these values should be 0 since all the other boxes are 0.

I also have aches in my left flank/ lower back, I realize that this could be kidney issues, I remember first time about a year ago it hurt it hurt like a mofo for a few hours and since then just a dull ache, but shouldn't any kidney problems been reflected in the tests I took?

Thus your diagnosis will be the everpresent "IDIOPATHIC" HYPERTENSION...transtation, "we have NO CLUE"...I think the IDOIO is the same root as in the word IDIOT!!!

Medical profession hates straight talk- like maybe calling it CLUELESS HYPERTENSION might take them down a notch.

The ketones: "Few" probably means that you are on a diet and burning some fat...ketones are always thrown off. Lower carb diets throw off more ketones still! Diabetic ketosis is marked and MUCH higher than "few." Probably some latinate word meaning LOTS!...

Don't worry...It's pretty much the same diagnosis for everyone. A found cause is a rarity (those pressor [BP raising] tumors are quite uncommon.)

Though the MD's will swear up and down that it can't possibly be it, but could the isolated systolic hbp be caused by the stress due to being in college? I mean according to their risk assesment, I just don't fit, since I am just 22, underweight if anything and eat really healthy and excercise a lot.

I have noticed a small lump in my throat, it has been there for a while, like the size of a small pea or so on the left side near my jaw line, you can't really see it but I can feel it and I can put my fingers around it and it feels like a small hard ball. Could one of my lymph nodes be blocked up causing it?

That sounds like a goiter. If it is, there might be a problem with the thyroid. HeatherW

They did do some thyroid tests, T3 and T4 and I can't remember if ferritin serum was also for thyroid, but those tests came back normal so atleast the one doc I saw didn't think it was thyroid.

If I drink a gallon of water within a few hours time, my bp will go around 120/70 for a short period of time as well and my pulse drops into the mid to high 60's, could this point to something?
