| Any similar experience?
My mum has been put on nifedipine S.R. (two tablets a day) for less than a week. Yesterday, she took her BP measurements twice: 147/78 in the morning and 142/96 in the afternoon - sounds ok. Yet late at night, she felt that her arms and legs were losing strength and trembling. She also found herself difficult to speak. She felt as if a stroke was going to happen. Quickly she was brought to the emergency room where her BP was found to be extremely high, 205/110 something. She was then given a tablet of something under her tongue. Then her BP was brought to normal. She is now hospitalized and is being given the same anti-hypertension drug i.e. nifedipine, same dosage, and her BP is normal. Doctors have made X-ray checks on her, not much findings. They said this should not be a stroke. A relief.
Yet I wonder why BP can still be as high as 205/110 despite the application of medication. Do you have similar experiences? Do you know under what conditions do the medication applied become ineffective? You know it is so unsafe when the medication seems ok at times but not at others. (For information, my mum had had abundant celery stalks during the day before her trembling symptoms started last night. Don't know if it's related.)
