Atenolol Side effects - High & Low Blood Pressure Message Board

Hi all,
Can 50Mg Atenolol cause depression, panic attacks (paranoid) and mood swings?
I have been on these med's since November and it has only been the last 2 months this has been happening.

Hi Paul, I also have been on Atenolol since Nov. and I only take 25mg. I just wanted to share with you that I also have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder which evidently I've had my whole life. The reason I am saying this is that I have only recently been diganosed in April with the OCD (also depression) because I finally went to get help because it was just getting too much for me to handle anymore. Did it get worse because of the atenolol????? I don't know but after reading your post I just wanted to share that with you! Beth

To be honest i think i have always been obsessive and compulsive. I can't leave my house without checking the door handle atleast 4 times. I never realised that there was such a medical condition. I am worse lately though, i take things to there extremes lately and can't stopping thinking about them in my mind. An example, three months ago now i sleep walked, i have never done it before this time and never again after. But i still obsess over it now, i can lie awake at night wondering what else i could if i were a sleep. A little mad considered i it has only happened once.

Anyway spoke to my doc, he never thought i was mad but he did think it was a little unusual. He has told me to stop my BP med's until next week when i see him and then we will discuss the outcome them and whether i should change meds.
