BP Readings... - High & Low Blood Pressure Message Board

Hey folks!

I'm on 80mg Micardis (telmisartan) ARBII daily. No side effects any more. My readings at home on a manual gauge sphyg. and a digital monitor (Omron) are consistent at around 130/75.

However, even though I am not nervous, at the doctor's office he reads it 10-20 points higher. Last week he wanted to add a diuretic. I flat-out said "no" and asked him to give my eating/exercise habits more time to try and do their thing. At least he was cool with that.

I'm thinking of just keeping a log of my own readings to show him. Can it still be [i]white coat[i] if I'm not consciously nervous. Perhaps waiting for 2 HOURS WITH AN APPOINTMENT made me a little stressed!

Absolutely can be white coat even if you are not conscious of being nervous.

On meds I maintain an average of 110/60's-70's at home. ( have an OMRON like you). Had a gynecological check-up not long ago...I was feeling really relaxed and cheery, and my BP was 138/88 when he took it. That's a 28 point leap in systolic fer gawdsake! And approx 20 point rise for diastolic.

I freaked a bit and the doc said, "What do you expect..you're in a doctor's office stark naked!"

It's so good that your doctor didn't strong-arm you into adding the diuretic just yet, although I'm guessing that if you told him about your readings at home, he would like to see your systolic a little lower.

Thanks for responding. Trying to convince my doctor that my BP is in a more normal range outside of his office is very trying to say the least. While he didn't strong-arm me, he certainly wasn't happy about it me refusing the diuretics.

I actually returned the Omron, because I started getting errors (EE). I am picking up a manual dial/gauge sphyg. today. I have been keeping a log of my BP (using my mom's manual shpyg.) to show him how it is outside of his office at different times during the day.

Let's see what he says on Monday! BTW, I've lost about seven pounds so far!
