Question Question about beta blockers

I am taking Coreg 12.5 mg. twice a day for skipped heart beats and blood pressure.

I noticed my hands swell up after taking it. Do you think this is normal or not?

Re: Question about beta blockers

No, beta-blockers have a lot of side-effects that make the drugs really a last last resort imo. I would demand that my doc. switch me or take me off of the drug. What was your B/P???

Re: Question about beta blockers

My blood pressure was running about 150/90. Last time it was checked it was 132/92. I have thyroid problems. If I take the 12.5, it really zonks me out

I think I will just split it in half and see what happens.

Thanks

Re: Question about beta blockers

Don't worry, the beta-blocker brigade zonks me out as well. They s**k. 150/90 isn't terrible, but call the docs office & check if it is alright to to break it in half. I hope you have a good GP.

Re: Question about beta blockers

I haven't found a good one yet. The good ones are 50 miles away. Too far for me.

Re: Question about beta blockers

I know that beta blockers can affect your circulatory system. I was on toprol xl for a few yrs. My dr insisted i keep taking it until one day i just could not tolerate the side effects. Why not call you pharmacist and ask what the side effects are if you can't reach your dr.

Re: Question about beta blockers

From my experience with pharmacists, they read straight out of a manual & eventually say talk to your doctor. It's a vicious circle.

Re: Question about beta blockers

Gee guys,

I must be the only only one that has a wonderful GP and very informed pharmacist. Maybe you should all move to Arizona.

Re: Question about beta blockers

I would rather live in Arizona. Much prettier country then Missouri. I especially like Colorado.

Re: Question about beta blockers

Lady 50,

We were thinking of taking a trip to Branson, Missouri. How is it?

I live my pharmacist, he's very knowledgeable. My gp is now my ex gp. I will be seeing a new gp next week.

Re: Question about beta blockers

Good for you. I have gone through that 3 times in the past 20 months. The specialists in HBP seem like they are the only ones that really understand from my experience. I'm still searching for a GP that understands HBP, or if one has HBP.

Re: Question about beta blockers

Axe, that is a good point. I think some drs (gp) don't understand hbp and they just follow the leader. if one gp puts you on a drug, then the next one will go along with the program. That happened to me. I told my ex gp i wanted off hctz due to the glucos & cholesterol hikes and he responded by saying, the drs in the hospital put you on those drugs and they're good bp meds. He refused to prescribe something else, so i found another dr. Also i just halfed my hctz myself, and my bp is about the same as b4 with 3 meds.

Re: Question about beta blockers

This seems to be a regular line that doctors use. Altace, Toprol, Lotrel, Atenolol, Verapamil+ may be good meds. for some, but not for all. I want a doc. that keeps us with latest research & has a mind of their own.

Re: Question about beta blockers

Lady,
Coreg seems to be a combinataion alpha AND beta blocker (confusing) and can cause swelling:
Quote:
Side effects from carvedilol can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

tiredness
lightheadedness
dizziness
body or leg swelling
headache
diarrhea
vision changes
joint pain
difficulty falling or staying asleep
