High BP from not enough sleep?

Can high BP be caused by lack of sleep? I have gotten some higher readings lately(140/76). Of course, this reading was taken at a drug store so I'm not sure how accurate those are.... but I've only gotten about 6.5-7 hrs of sleep a night for the last 2 weeks at least. I also tend to mess up my sleep schedule alot with the staying up til 3-4 am on weekends and having to get up early Monday morning.

Re: High BP from not enough sleep?

When I don't get enough sleep it tends to bring my BP up somewhat, but not too much. What's your age/weight?

Re: High BP from not enough sleep?

Your body specs are pretty good and you're also young. So, chances are you don't have high BP. The reason your readings are high is probably because you are worried about it before measuring. I am the same way (worry about my readings; I'm 17) and my BP can be 140/76 when I'm worried easy. I have a home BP monitor and I still get worried on my first reading, but subsequent readings it's normal. So, if you really want to find out if you have a BP prob, you should prolly buy a home BP monitor (not one that measuers from the wrist, but the arm) because you are most likely more comfortable at your house.

Those machines are accurate a lot of times as well. If you go to a CVS or Eckerds it is your best bet.

To answer your question, yes, lack of sleep can cause a slight increase in B/P. I usually take mine 3 times & average the last 2.
