Optimal blood pressure is considered to be 120/80 or below.
Your top # (the 140) was probably a little elevated because you were in a doctor's office... ( It's called "white coat"hypertension ... caused by anxiety or stress..)
The word "hypertension" in this case is really a misnomer, since it is a temporary spike).
I bet it's perfect when you are at home and /or relaxed.
When I recently went to the doctor for an exam my blood pressure was like 140/70
Is 70 too low for the bottom number or is that normal range?
I'd be more concerned about the 140 than the 70. The 70 is absolutely perfect. And, the 140 is more likely caused be anxiety at the Dr.'s office. Did the Dr. say anything about it?
Also, from your posts on other boards, I gather that you are taking atenolol for MVP. And, you also mentioned stomach problems. I don't mean to stir things up here. But, I recall reading about others with this complaint here.
Each person is different. My drs would be HAPPY to see my bp 130/80. It is usually above that. On five different meds i was able to get it to 113/70, but i didn't feel well.
My personal feeling is that it messes with your normal body chemistry & makes you feel worse than before. If my unmedicated B/P was 137-77 for instance & I had a few spikes once in a while, it is normal. Now at 116/66, I don't feel normal. I feel better at 135/85 than at 120/80. I don't know what to say.
Mine was running average of 160/100 . Then Iwas put on Topral XL and now average about 140/ 80. I feel much better these days. I am a 34 yr. old female and mine is caused from the Prednisone I'm on for my liver illness.

I believe that some ppl have a BP above 120/80 and it is totoally normal for them. I can agree with saying "generally, it should be 120/80 or less" -- but, some ppl feel like **** when it's that low. Thus, it can't be good.
That's a perfect range. I believe 90/60 is considered low blood pressure. But, low blood pressure isn't normally considered a problem unless there are symptoms. The thinking is the lower the better.
