ASCOT Study Halted - CCB+ACE better than BB+diuretic

This is some very recent news. See:

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/news/fullstory_21756.html

This 19,000 patient trial (ASCOT) was halted because amlodipine/perindopril (CCB/ACE) combination was remarkably better at preventing CV events and stroke than atenolol/bendroflumethiazide (BB/diuretic) combo.

So, basically every study contradicts every other study ever studied?

We'll have to do a STUDY on that, dback!

I do hate when Pfizer (or another major pharma house) sponsors a study and then stops it short of completion because it is so "obvious" that everybody should be on the Pfizer drug...hang the test! There's a distinct odor of conficted interests hanging like a pall.
"Norvasc Uber Alles???," yeah, right!

I agree dback and lenin, these studies are a farce, to bad there is a conflict of interest, but since there is it is very difficult to find reliable info on drugs, but I think the older drugs that have proven themselves and drug companies don't promote anymore are probably a good bet.

I couldn't agree more. Give me the tried and true old cheap generics ANYTIME.

LOLOL, I asbsentmindedly tried to pull up Palamedes' Medline link (thinking all the while "this seems familiar") and Medline informed me it's too OLD!
