Question BP 108/69 , Is this Low or Normal?

Hi,
I am Hari, male at age 23 and 5.7ft and 125lbs. Recently i checked my Blood Pressure and i found that it is 108/69. The person who tested this said that your blood pressure is low, he said you have low blood pressure.
For the past few(4 to 5) years I stopped taking salt (excluding the items which already have salt). My uncle said your blood pressure is normal, as your not taking salt often, he said for people who take salt will have 120/80. but still i have some doubt in my mind. so can anyone please tell is it normal or low? if it is low what i have to do to control it and avoid the damage.
let me know what to do i am in full confusion,

Regards
Kiran

Absolutely perfect!

You might want to have someone else test it. This person is clearly incompetent. If this person is a medical professional, you need to find someone else.

Well, you are probably still consuming lots of salt unless you are carefully reading labels and cooking your own food. So, this is probably not very significant.

As long as you are't smoking, keep doing what you are doing. Your BP is perfect.

Your BP is great, a lot of people on this board would do anything to have numbers like yours! I believe Hypotension (low BP) is when you have BP below 90/60.

Re: BP 108/69 , Is this Low or Normal?

Pal,

The pharmacist at the Pharmacy took my b/p & it was 108/59. He said that he will personally talk to my doctor. He is a doctor as well. He believes that I should be on only one med. & that my pulse rates & B/P get down too low on the Lotrel & Atenolol. What might be normal for some, isn't normal for everyone. He said that the less meds. that one is on the better. He said that I don't need so many meds. & that maybe I need just one at a lower dose..... that is what I thought. He said that he will personally call my doc. to tell him that he thinks that I am being over-medicated. At 137/74 I feel good at 108/59, I feel like a zombie. Everyone is different Pal.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make here. Are you implying that the original posters BP of 108/69 is too low? The original poster never said anything about meds. He also didn't mention any problems. Therefore, I assumed an unmedicated individual with a BP of 108/69 who is doing fine. And, I still hold that his BP of 108/69 is absolutely perfect. Your BP of 108/59 is a tad low on the diastolic. But, it's still a great BP to have. However, to say that a BP of 137/74 is preferable is nonsense. What is preferable is to have 108/59 and NOT feel like a zombie. You obviously can't obtain that - at least with your current medication regiment.

Re: BP 108/69 , Is this Low or Normal?

108/69 is fine unmedicated Pal, if this person isn't having other problems. I have had 137/74 since I was 22 or so & always felt great. We'll see when I go to the specialist. Some people feel fine with a pulse of 52. The pharmacist said that 60-100 is normal. If it is 52, then dizziness may come, especially on Atenolol & Lotrel & he was even willing to call my doctor to tell him his opinion. Everyone is different. If you have a B/P of 137/74 for years & it suddenly goes down to 108/59 on a regular basis with a pulse of 52 when you are used to 70 or so, then one might be over-medicated. I am going to a specialist on my own freewill, because the GP's that I have been to don't know enough about B/P IMO.

Re: BP 108/69 , Is this Low or Normal?

Axe, when my bp was 130/72 i also felt better than when it was 113/60. Some ppl do better with a higher bp. However, i long for those days again.

Re: BP 108/69 , Is this Low or Normal?

So do I!!!! I was much sharper as well before the B/P meds. at a higher B/P & a higher pulse. I will find a way to keep my B/P within good levels even if they are a little high. Can't wait until I see the specialist! Lethargy is kicking in.... Gotta love it.

Question Re: BP 108/69 , Is this Low or Normal?

Hi,

I got confusued with above discussion, but i feel my bp reading 108/69 is normal and perfect, but let me know clearly some one say it is normal some one say it is low.

let me clear this doubt, recently my friend(Lady) joined in a hospital bcoz of low bp, she said her bp is 90/70. can this be possible to have 90/70 reading. i heard there will be some relationship between systolic and dia--lic reading is it right?

let me clear?

Thanks & Regards,
Kiran

Re: BP 108/69 , Is this Low or Normal?

KIRAN,
I posted the following answer the other day to someone who was asking "how low is too low?":
________________________________________ _________________________
I've read that the definition of hypotension is if blood pressure is 90/60 or below.
Even with a number like that, if it does not cause symptoms...fainting, dizziness, lightheadedness... it's generally considered to be a sign of good cardiovascular health and nothing to worry about.

Basically though, if one's BP is below the cut-off "optimal" of 120/80...let's say at what seems like a healthy 116/68..... but they have symptoms, then that could be a signal that that's too low for them.

________________________________________ ________________________
Now, you ask about the relationship between the systolic/diastolic.....The difference between the systolic (the top #) and the diastolic (the bottom #) is called the pulse pressure and a normal pulse pressure is usually considered in the 30-40mmHg range. Many things can cause either a widened pulse pressure (a diff of more than 40mmHg) or a narrowed pulse pressure (less than 40 mmHg). It can happen occassionally in all of us.
The difference in pressures is useful for estimating the "stiffness" of the arteries. As arteries harden or calcify this number will usually rise and suggests reduced large artery vascular compliance and sometimes you'll see this in people who have what they call isolated systolic hypertension (where only the top # is abnormally high).
If the #s are too close together, like your friend's, it can indicate various heart problems.

Your pulse pressure is 108 minus 69
=39
...which is considered NORMAL.

Re: BP 108/69 , Is this Low or Normal?

My pulse pressure is usually 50 or so & has been for 10+ years.... not stressing. Yes, when my B/P is 108/62 & my pulse is 52 I do feel dizzy, tired & like junk. Gotta love the meds.
