When is blood pressure too low?

I have been taking Inderal for Migraine headaches for about 4 years now. I used to have mildly higher blood pressure too. Now that they have come out with the new blood pressure standards that is. I used to be about 139 over 90 or 100. They would tell me that was kind of high for someone who was as young and small as me. I was about 110 lbs and 22 years old. Now that I am 34 and taking Inderal which is a blood pressure medication I finally went out and bought a blood pressure monitor for home this last weekend just to make sure my blood pressure is ok. The lowest I measured it at was 107 over 77 about 2 hours after taking the Inderal. Can someone tell me what is too low? I know that is probably not too low but I just want to know what to look for while monitoring this.

Re: When is blood pressure too low?

I was just working out and I took my blood pressure and it had gone down to 104 over 79. Is that normal for the top number to drop when working out?

Re: When is blood pressure too low?

The latest guidelines for BP state that below 120/80 is optimal.
Your #s are great. Nothing to worry about, and yes, after exercise the systolic often drops.

No fretting allowed! Your'e fine!

But how low is considered too low? (I know I probably don't have to worry about that! But it is still nice to know.)

Uff-Da,

I've read that the definition of hypotension is if blood pressure is 90/60 or below.
Even with a number like that, if it does not cause symptoms...fainting, dizziness, lightheadedness... it's generally considered to be a sign of good cardiovascular health and nothing to worry about.

Basically though, if one's BP is below the cut-off "optimal" of 120/80...let's say at what seems like a healthy 116/68..... but they have symptoms, then that could be a signal that that's too low for them.
