Blood Pressure Readings For Children?
I was wondering if someone could tell me if blood pressure readings in children are supposed to be the same, lower, or higher than those of an adult. Or does it have nothing to do with age? Is it based on weight?
You probably want to know why I'm asking. The short story is that I have a 9 year old boy in my class (he's big, but not obese), who sweats profusely and gets BEET red in the face when he's in PE class or at playtime. I pull him out frequently to rest and then send him back in. We just happened to have to go to the infirmary today, so I asked the nurse to take his blood pressure, even though gym had been over for about 20 minutes. It was 130/80. Mine is something like 110/70. Anyway, I have to wonder what it would have been when he was smack in the middle of gym class. Is this normal? I'm worried about him.
