How soon would the effects of exercise show?

That's my question in a nutshell. If a person (ME) were to start exercising 30minutes a day 5 days a week (cardio) and up it to 45 minutes a day 5 days a week after a week or so, how long do you think it would take before the BP numbers started to fall? I know it's not going to be as quickly as meds (and I do plan on starting on meds as my readings have been consistantly 135/145 over 90/100), but I've lost 40 pounds so far and no change in my BP reading... I am hoping to continue to lose & I'm also hoping the added benefits of exercise will start the numbers on a downward path.
Thank!

Maybe around 3 months and you will be lucky if they drop. Sometimes it's in the genes and there is nothing you can do. Regardless Excercise is great for more reasons than BP......Good luck keep us posted, Lisa

Excersize drops mine by approx 7/3 within a few days, but only if i havent been doing much real work (manual labor)

If I have been doing a lot of work outside, it doesnt make any difference

First of all, great job losing 40 pounds! Second of all, wonderful that you are making an effort to lose more.

Exercise will help you lose weight, and is good for your cardiovascular system, muscles, bones, mental health, etc........

But, it may not make much difference to your blood pressure. As Moxie75 says, sometimes its your genes, not environment. I've been exercising regularly for a year and I'm not sure its made much difference to my bp. But, along with the exercise I've changed my diet so that I've lost 18 pounds, and I'm working on 17 more, because I feel and look a lot better than I did.

Congrats to anyone who loses weight. Keep it going guys you should be very proud of yourselves. I am 46 and the weight seems to hang on for dear life. I have been working out for years and years and more so now than ever. And guess what? I'm not as thin as I was in my 20s-30s when doing less excercice..go figure..Lisa
