Different Pressures in Each Arm - High & Low Blood Pressure Message Board

Hello-

I am an 18 year old male. While at my grandpas house recently, i decided to take my blood pressure on his home machine just for fun. I took my left arm and it was 121/70 which I guess is pretty good. I took my right arm and it was 130/75, which my grandpa seemed concerned about. I have since become concerned about it (this was a few weeks ago) and taken it sever al ore times in each arm, and it always come back about the same. Is it very strange to have a difference like that in the arms? also should i be concerned about the 130/75 reading in my right arm? thanks a lot for your replies!

Mike,
This is very common and it's perfectly normal to have a difference of 10 mm Hg (or even more) between arms, especially for the top (systolic) #.
There is usually less fluctuation between arms with the bottom #s but even then, a difference like yours is considered normal.

Mike, Trust me I know..... your blood pressures in both arms are perfectly healthy and normal. Also, it is normal to have a different pressure in each arm. If possible, when you take your pressure try to always take it in the left arm as this pressure is the MOST accurate and the location we in the medical field always use when medically possible.
