High distaloic pressure/high cholesterol - High & Low Blood Pressure Message Board

My cholesterol has always been high, my diastolic blood pressure is now high because I had to go off my thyroid medication (TSH is 114) My blood pressure has been taken twice the first time it was 144/103, today it is 120/100. I called my PCP and talked to his nurse/secretary (she is not a real nurse, she is a NA) she says to keep track of it and if it gets higher to go to ER. I am trying to avoid that trip. Especially as it was there, that the BP was 144/103 and the nurse did NOT notify the Dr. (I was on my way out the door) I know that lowering my sodium might help and maybe watching my potassium could help also. What does everyone here think? Just how high is too high on a diastolic pressure? My kidneys are already acting up, blood in urine and I am putting out about 1/4 of what I am taking in, my face is pretty swollen. I have about 10lbs of water that I have put on in last 4 to 5 days. However it is not settling in my hands and feet and legs. The water is spread mostly in my abdomen and face. (this is a "normal" hypo response) I have at least 1 week before this will be any better (waiting on a whole body scan) I just would like to know if anyone here has a high diastolic pressure and if they have ever been told just how high is too high? I can NOT limit my fluid intake as I have just taken a RAI treatment (pill form) and need to get the RAI out of my body ASAP. My endo is of no help because it takes her 4 days to return calls, even if it is an emergency. Another question is will my high cholesterol cause me problems now? It is way up, almost to 400 with trig's around 280

Hello, I'm a 46 year old male. My diastolic was also running high. I asked my doctor how high does it have to get for me to be REALLY concerned about it. His response was 120. At the time mine was frequently running over 100. The highest I saw was 118. With medication, it is now down under 80.

Obviously, your situation may be different than mine.

Thanks for replying Oklahoma, last night it was 155/120, but I had blown it and eaten some salt. I waited a hour and it was back down to a more normal range of 130/90. Thanks for the heads up about the 120 # though, my PCP is so far away, 85 miles, that I can not just run and get it checked by them and would have to go to ER for that! Who wants to go there? I can feel it when its up cause I get dizzy sitting down! I am back on my thyroid meds (just enough to lower this pressure) until I have my cancer treatment. Wish me luck and good luck to you also!
