Re: Alka Seltzer
If one is looking for an antacid to relieve heartburn, upset stomach, acid indigestion, etc, I always thought that Alka Seltzer was overkill and counter-productive in that it has aspirin in it which can upset the stomach!
I think you can avoid a lot of sodium with Tums, (I have a bottle in front of me and 2 tabs=5 mg sodium which is less than 1% of the 2400mg RDA...two Alka Seltzer tablets contain 1064mg!!)
Avoid ROLAIDS..I read that 1 tab has 53mg sodium.
I know for sure that Riopan, Maalox and Mylanta 2 are considered "low sodium". Might be even LOWER than Tums...you'll have to check labels.
NOT sure about Milk of Magnesia or Pepto Bismol.
Maybe someone else here knows?
P.S. Just found out that 2 tablespoons Milk of Magnesia has only 3 mg sodium and that any OTC drug with less than 5mg per "serving" is considered virtually sodium-free.
