Atacand~anyone heard of it?

FINALLY~went to the dreaded doc today. Thought I would let you all know how it went. I am between doctors so I went to the local minor emergency clinic. I brought my last weeks of bp readings and they accepted it and did not take my bp~Needless to say "QUEEN" of white coat was happy. The doc thinks I should stay on Diovan(which works for me sometimes and sometimes not). We talked about Benicar~he had no samples of it~but gave me ATACAND instead and a script for Diovan. I am a little disappointed~I was ready to try something else. He was nice and understanding of the anxiety i have~he told me he has had it for many years. I took my trusty Ativan before my appt and I felt CALM but my bp was up and my pulse was in 90's to 100's~this I know because I used my new home monitor. Never thought Ativan could be "accelerating" me when I feel totally "CALM" but I can say this~there is NO way I could have sat at that clinic for almost 2 hrs without it. About the ATACAND~should I try the free sample~or just skip it and get the Diovan refilled? He had a closet of samples as big as an 18wheeler and gives me one I have NEVER heard of?
oh well~Happy Thursday to all RR

Re: Atacand~anyone heard of it?

red-rider,

I think the Diovan, Benicar and Atacand are peas in a pod...not much difference. They are all sartans (ARB's) and work the same way. None is a particularly strong drug anhd most people find they must add a diuretic. (I think the diuretic usually does far more than half the work.)
If he gave you enough ATACAND to get a decent trial, I'd take it and chart the numbers. However, if he gave you 7 pills or so, then it's not worth the trouble...stick them in the drawer for a time you run out of the DIOVAN.

Gee, I wonder why he pushes the Diovan so hard...is it possible Novartis paid for his last vacation?

Re: Atacand~anyone heard of it?

Thanks Lenin for your input. Needless to say~I wasn't too impressed with this md. I was in a dither because I had one pill left and that was it! I had been scouring the phone book for 2 weeks and the only few docs I wanted to see were booked or unavailable. I live in a tiny town and have to commute for a decent doc. The minor med clinic was a last resort. Having a good md makes all the difference. For now~Im stuck with more Diovan. The docs are definitely "romanced" by the pharm reps. I think they even did a show on it(20-20). They get some fringe benefits that's for sure. I just want a med that WORKS!!

Re: Atacand~anyone heard of it?

red-rider...My last appointment I waited about 30 minutes to see my GP. In that time 3 sales reps called on him and left samples after nursie toddled in an got his signature for their "tally." He DID brush off the attempts at lunch "meetings" they seemed eager to arrange.
All three were women and two were statuesque beautiful blondes who would stop traffic on a crowded street! and my doctor's a GAY man ! Boy were those pharma companies using the wrong bait!

I can't IMAGINE how many come in on any given day.

LOL. I think if the pharmas start sending the "right" bait to your doctor, the companies know entirely too much.
