Talking Wow! 111/68!

Well, since I have "white coat hypertension" whenever I take my BP at home these days, I decided to try something out: I told my wife to start taking my BP daily and frequently and to not tell me the numbers. I figured that the mere anxiety from taking the readings themselves was causing my numbers to be high and, to make things worse, focusing on the numbers contributed to the anxiety even more. So, after several readings in a day, it got so frequent that it got comfortable and I didn't care about it after a while. She took many readings yesterday and today she had to tell me what they were as they were really good: about half where in the low =>120/80 range while the other half were in the <120/80 range. The lowest reading was 111/68!

So, this is just more proof that I cause my BP to spike and don't have a high BP problem per se! Once I got desensitized to taking the readings, my anxiety went down and, hence, so did my BP.

That's awesome MG - I have the same issue - when I go to the docs my readings are ridiculous - the doc called it suggestable bp - cuz my #'s at home - once I got used to taking them - they are now anywhere from 106/66 - 120/78. It's so weird, because if I start thinking about it - I can make it go up - The brain really does control the body

I wonder what would happen if you started telling yourself that you have great low BP.

Wow, you've got the exact same issue I have! Good to hear your numbers are optimal. I won't take my own BP anymore. I let my wife do it and she will let me know if I need to seek medical attention or not. Using this method has had a significant impact on the my readings = much, much lower!

They would probably go even lower. The mind, especially mine, has a great influence on BP.

Re: Wow! 111/68!

Good going mg.
In a similar vein, I had middle ear surgery and was told to stop all meds for a couple days. I was OUT for about 6 hours after the sugery and I awoke to find myself hooked to a number of things, one of which was an automatic BP tester that took a reading every 15 minutes. I looked at the printout (like a grocery receipt) 110/60, 105/62, 98/58...I should have torn off the tabulation and stuffed up my GP. Mind you, this was OFF DRUGS for several days. THe nurse asked later whether I had LOW BLOOD PRESSURE!

I occasionally get numbers like this at home too but at the GP it's 170/115 or thereabouts and we begin the boring ritual battle!

Re: Wow! 111/68!

I did the same thing to get rid of my whitecoat BP. I took my blood pressure every 1/2 hour one weekend. By the end of the weekend I had exhaused my nerves and started to get all low readings. My lowest has been 91/58. Most of them are around 115/62 and some go up in the 125/85 range. I continued to take my blood pressure once or twice a day and continued to get low readings. Then I went to the doctor...!!!

150/89 with a pulse of 126. Imagine that! She just said I didn't need to take it in the office anymore so maybe next time I can relax when I take it there also. At least I can relax when I take it home now!
