Well, I've been on Avapro 150mg for about 2 1/2 weeks now and I got my first normal reading since I was a kid. Okay, my reading was 138/89, but after 15+ years of 170/100, I'll take it!
I know that to most of you, that's not much to cheer about, but for me, it's absolutely wonderful! Next task is to get it lower and constant.
Congrats!!
I understand from personal experence how depressing it can be to go from one pill to another and get NO results.
You are right to be excited when something finally works. It's a great feeling.
And I agree, some might not find those numbers all that great but I did when I went from 170s to 130s.

If you want something very similar that might work better for you, consider Avalide...same irbesartan with added HCTZ. The two drugs are well suited to working together. I think that would be a much better idea especially if your doctor starts to mention going to 300 mg. Avapro.
The two choices to bring this home, assuming your bp doesn't go down more over the next couple weeks, is 300 Avapro or 150 Avalide. There's a lot to be said for small doses of 2 different medicines--sometimes fewer side effects and often the dangers of one are counteracted by the other. Bu it's very likely that going one way OR the other will get you a verynormal bp, because Avapro works unusally well for you. So congratulations!
Wonderful news! I think that's a great improvement. You might get better results with a little more time. I'd say give it at least a month before you start thinking about increasing dosage or adding something.
Thanks guys! My next appointment is in september, so I have time to get some more precise readings. I think that my doc wanted to probably get me on diuretics as the second drug. But Lenin, you say that I should go the Avalide route?
