wrist cuffs

Hi, I have a regular arm blood pressure cuff but have trouble getting anyone to take my blood pressure as often as I feel it's needed. I have looked at the wrist cuffs at Wal-Mart and was wondering if they are accurate? Could someone recomend a good one? I am overweight and have a thicker wrist than normal sized people (haha) Will all wrist cuffs fit all people? I have been having trouble with legs and ankles swelling lately and I really want to monitor my blood pressure. Thanks!

Re: wrist cuffs

I think you;ll be happier with the results from a self-inflating digital bicep cuff. I feel strongly that they are more accurate than wrist cuffs!

Re: wrist cuffs

I have a omron wrist, I take it along to my DR. to check for accuracy and she said it is fine. Have had it at least 4 years and like it. I just checked the booklet and it for a wrist up to 7 3/4 inches in diameter. I saw they have a new cuff out that tells you wether your have your arm at heart level.

Someone gave me a brand new one and that thing is so off, I had a reading of 169/173, took it over immediatly and the reading was 131/74, another time it was 122/130, a repeat was was 130/70, that cuff only had a serial number and the distributers name, it is in the garbage.

Omron has a toll free custome service help line and they are great about helping you. They may make a larger wrist size, but I am not sure. You put the wrist right above the wrist joint, so measure that area and see if you can use it wih a cloth tape measurer.

Re: wrist cuffs

I have a wrist cuff from CVS that is accurate. It seems to have a pretty big strap. I would suggest you check out monitors at drug stores like CVS rather than discount places like Wal-mart. You might also see if they will let you try strapping on different models to find one most comfortable and best fitting, and if they will give you advise on how it should fit.
