From what I read about DASH during my research, it is truly the gold standard of HBP lowering diet. Too much salt can wreak havoc on the body. I don't follow DASH, but I have cut down my salt intake a great deal. I believe it has helped me, along with exercise and low carb, no sugar lifestyle to bring my BP into an acceptable range.
