stars,
Back when thiazides were the only drug "in town" for BP control, the usual STARTING dose for HCTZ (Hydrodiuril or Esidrix) was 100 mg./day. For people with edema, 300 mg. several times a week was the norm. Sporadic uses seems to work best with edema, daily use with hypertension only.
So I agree with mgraylorn; no problem at all with 25 mg. I've taken 50 mg. a day for decades..and I too was originally prescribes 100 mg./day.
Did the extra 12.5 mg. help with the swelling? Unfortunately if the Cardizem (diltiazem) is causing the edema, thiazide probably won't help much because the edema of calcium channel blockers is caused by a mechanism other than salt retention.
