Norvasc & Atenolol Leg Pain

I have been on Norvasc & atenolol for 3 years. My right thigh started hurting a couple of years ago. Now my left thigh has begun to hurt the same as my right. The pain can keep me on crutches sometimes. The pains come and go. The doctors say they don't know why and I have them stumped.I requested to be taken off of these two meds and they changed my BP med last week.I still have the pains. I was wondering if anyone has had these problems while on these meds.

Re: Norvasc & Atenolol Leg Pain

It's POSSIBLE Norvasc might be involved. The manufaturer reports around 1% incidence of arthragia, arthrosis, muscle cramps, and myalgia.

My guess is that the leg pain is from something else, but what I'd do is test the hypothesis by going off the Norvasc for a month or two... and then do the same for atenolol to see if your leg pain goes away. You may need a substitute med for hypertension or not, depending on how bad your BP is.

Do you have any back-pain...what you are suffering sounds a LOT like sciatica?

Re: Norvasc & Atenolol Leg Pain

There is no back pain. The pain is between below the hip to above the knee. There is no pain in the hip or knee. I just went off of Norvasc & atenolol to benicar hct. How long would it be before the effects of norvasc would be gone. Last week they did blood tests and all of my tests were ok. They even checked for hep A, B & C. All were negative.

Re: Norvasc & Atenolol Leg Pain

fmc,
I would think that 2 months would be long enough to tell the tale!
