Lowering systolic numbers

My systolic pressure seems to be between 130-134, occassionally going up to 136 or 139. I know that these numbers mean that I am eventually heading towards having borderline systolic pressure. I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to try and lower the numbers? I get a lot of exercise and I don't usually have foods with a lot of salt.

Re: Lowering systolic numbers

Hi cbrookhart,

Depending upon what kind of eating patterns you have right now, it is possible that just a change in diet might lower your BP enough to put you back closer to normal. For most Americans, that means less junk food, lower fat meats, often less meat, increased consumption of fruits and vegetables, and a change from refined flour products to whole grains. Check out the information on the DASH diet at the link below and see if there are changes there that you could make.
