need to learn more

Hi, New to this board I'm seeking advice I recently (2 weeks ago) was put on Hydrochlotizide (sp?) 25 mg for my b/p 143/90 since on it my readings are usually 138/83 does this sound like it is working after 2 weeks I would think it should be lower. I am currently taking Lexapro for my anxiety/panic disorder which is working great. Does anyone have good advice for me also I've been seeing abreviations ccb & acei what do those means? Thanks alot Jules

Re: need to learn more

I have no experience with diuretics, so I can't help you out there.

CCB = calcium channel blocker, examples are diltiazem, amlodipine (norvasc) and verapamil. They affect the passage of calcium into the heart and blood vessels and relax the blood vessels, thereby lowering blood pressure.

ACEI = angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor, examples are captopril, benazepril, enalapril, and lisinopril. This inhibitor prevents the activation of angiotensin, which constricts the blood vessels.

So these are just different classes of blood pressure meds.
