I had really high blood pressure. Had been a pothead for 20 years. I am taking clonidine and triam/hctz and it was under control. But a month ago I quit toking. Now it's not under control any more. In fact it seems higher than ever. Did the weed help keep my pressure down? I know it kept the stress down (which I am feeling more than ever). But did it have a positive effect on me BP wise? Or is it just a coincidence? I'd rather be a pothead than dead or taking more pills. I hate taking pills. Should I go back to the herb and see what happens? What do yall reckon? I want to be rid of all my addictions. I got rid of caffeine, stopped the weed, and have been working towards ending the nicotine. Never drank alcohol. But if the result is my bp goes through the roof what good have I done?
So does weed lower bp? I know it relaxes the blood vessels and lets blood flow easier, it's why you get red eyes. But does it have that big of an effect? Has there been any studies to show the relationship?
Maybe you should start exercising if you haven't started and change your diet. Pot is a drug also. I hate you to go back to that if there's other ways to control your HBP. If you don't like taking drugs why don't you mind smoking pot? I don't know how it effects your blood pressure. Maybe you're just adjusting to not smoking and it will take a while for things to calm down. I think we would have heard about it if it lowers HBP.
Pot has never been my drug of choice, I always got stupid and paranoid on it so I haven't tried it for decades.
I should ask the woman down the hall how her BP is.
My guess is that it might have a BP lowering effect because of it's relaxation response...for MOST people The red-eyes effect seems to imply arteriole dilation and that's always BP lowering.
There is only one way to find out. Check my pressure after taking my meds straight. Then smoke a little and check it again. Luckily I have a cuff, just no stephoscope and no idea how to use the thing. Oh well. Reckon I'll have to make a couple trips to Bi-Lo.
