Lotrel 10/20 side effects - High & Low Blood Pressure Message Board

Hello!
My husband has been on lotrel 10/20 for about 6 months I think, it could be longer though.
He has developed a little cough, nothing much, and it does a great job of controlling his blood pressure.
Last night I noticed his ankles were swollen, he did go for a run last night before that.
I checked the side effets of lotrel and noticed that swollen ankles was listed.
What do you all think? Should he discontinue using it...checking with his doctor first of course.
His doctor is one of the good ones, he was with him several years before they resorted to medication.....exercise, weight loss etc.
He did try two other classes of hbp medication before the lotrel, however I am now surprised that that he put him on the 10/20 without first trying a lower dose of lotrel.
My husband says that it is probably because they were the only samples of lotrel he had in the office that day...yikes!

It sure sound like he is going to have to discontinue it. The cough could be from the ACE Inhibitor part of Lotrel. And, the swollen ankles are a classic side-effect from the CCB (Norvasc) part of it. So, it sounds like he is going to need a complete drug change. Something like an ARB+Diuretic (Benicar HCT, Avalide, etc.) should give similar BP results to Lotrel.

Thanks for the recommendation.
His ankles were swollen again last night and he didn't go for a run yesterday.
This hbp control is harder than one might think.
Now I will have to nag him to make an appointment with his doctor!
