hello everyone..went to dr today and blood pressue 133/90...i have been on hydrochlorothiazide for about a year now which was keeping it under control, but no longer..she put me on a combo pill of lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide..anyone take this? any bad side effects? what about alcohol..i like to drink on weekends..u know typical 25 yr old lol any adv will be appreciated..thanks in advance.
The main side effect is constant nagging cough that makes ACE inhibitors impossible for many people to take.
If you don't get the cough, the pair of drugs will probably give you excellent control.
I didn't take the combination, just Lisinopril only for five years. I was fortunate and had no side effects whatsoever and got good control. I've since managed to get my BP under control without meds, though I'm back in the pre-hypertensive range, so will have to continue to watch it.
My son has taken lisinopril for about five years with no side effects. And I take hydrochlorothiazide and Vasotec, which is another ACE inhibitor, with no problems. Well, except for running to the bathroom for a couple of hours because of the diuretic!
Sorry, neither of us drinks, so I can't tell you anything about that aspect of it.
