White Coat Hit Hard Today

Well today I had an incident where a wooden valance fell and hit me square on the face - I was pretty sure imy nose was broken and knew I should go see the doctor. This got me so worked up that I took bp before I went to the doctors my bp was 150/102. My normal #'s have been averaging about 117/78.

My doctor said she thinks I am having panic attacks when I get there - which I agree with - however I have to question what kind of damage are these spikes doing to my body??? I am not taking any medication, which after bringing her in my bp monitor - she was able to look at my numbers from the past couple days and she agrees that I probably shouldn't be taking it (which I was very thankful for) but she did say maybe I needed to see a cardiologist because she didn't know if these spikes could be doing harm to me.

Any thoughts???

Re: White Coat Hit Hard Today

It's normal for BP to go high during panic attacks. The part in our favor is that panic attacks generally take up only a little of our time. Normal BP for the OTHER 22-23 hours is the more important factor.

If you HADN'T gotten a BP rise after thinking your nose had been broken with that valence, it proibably would be pretty good evidence that the valence had killed you..
If, on the other hand, someone is in a state of panic 3, 5, 8 or 10 hours a day, dsy ion snd dsy out, he has a lot more to worry about than his BP...like suicide.

Re: White Coat Hit Hard Today

Thanks Lenin - I did actually think the valence killed me (lol) It hit me so hard that blood squirted all over everything including my 2 year old - a bit scary! The spike pretty much stayed around all day and night yesterday -but today it seems to be going down a bit. I guess I am still a bit freaked out - I look like Marcia Brady (lol)

Have you ever heard of anyone getting over the white coat - I hate to think that everytime I go to the doc this is going to happen???
