Here i am back again with more problems. have been on the benicar hct and cardizem. bp still kept rising. finally i kept complaining about pain in kidneys, my father died at age 36 from nephritis and i told dr this concerned me. so i had a sonogram and doppler done 3 weeks ago.

This past tuesday he tells me there is narrowing in left kidney, although most pain is on right side. anyway seen a cardiologist friday and am scheduled to have renal angiogram with possible insertion of stent on tuesday.

of course had to have blood woek and chest x-rays done and on these forms was listed malignant hypertension ans reason for angio being. After looking that up online i'm really kind of worried. my gp acted like having this stent put in was the answer to all my problems, but now i'm not so sure.

Any one have any first hand knowledge about mh? i surely would appreciate any info. thanks in advance.

I don't personally know anything about malignant hypertension other than there is an underlying cause for the HBP. On the Kidney Disorders boards, there is a post titled Renal Artery Stent, member talks about having been treated for 20 yrs for HBP, and still climbs, very much like your story, she got a reply from someone about her husband having done. Please read up on this board, I think you may find more answers that deal with your situation and continued HBP, do mention the diagnosis of what your father had in the post.

Malignant hypertension in the term for blood pressure so high (like over 220/120 or therabouts) that it causes swelling and hemmorhaging in the eyes. Other organ targets for rapid damaage are the brain heart and kidneys.
Symptoms are theings like headaches, blurred vision, toxemia.

About 1% of hypertensives, usually African American, go on to develop this state which really is nothing more than runaway hypertension.

A synonym for it is ARTERIOLAR NEPHROSCLEROSIS and permanent kidney failure is the usually the most feared outcome. Blindness and stoke are right up there too.
