Does donating blood lower blood pressure slightly

Hello all,

I have just registered. I am thinking of donating blood to try and lower blood pressure. The theory is that if I donate approx 1/8 of my blood I should surely have a lower blood pressure than my average 130/80. Has anyone here tried that or noticed that they feel better when they give blood. Of course, its possible that some people end up with a slightly too low blood pressure when they give blood but I dont expect that to happen too me.
Please advise.

bye

ANDY,

I'm sure there will be a quick drop in your BP but it won't last long because replacement occurs pretty rapidly.

For a similar reason, lots of people in Transylvania have good low blood pressures !

^LOL!!
I agree it would only be temporary.. I imagine if it really did the Red Cross would take it and run with it! "Donating blood reduces hypertension! Give blood today and save your own life!".. so yeah, while it's great to give blood and doesn't hurt, I don't think it will solve the problem of high blood pressure.

Where did you hear that? According to the American Red Cross:
Quote:
Blood Pressure, High
Acceptable as long as your blood pressure is below 180 systolic (first number) and below 100 diastolic (second number) at the time of donation. Medications for high blood pressure do not disqualify you from donating.

They are desperate for blood because I remember years ago they wouldn't take it if you were above 140/90. I'm going to make an appointment to give some blood next week.
