Recs for blood pressure monitors??? - High & Low Blood Pressure Message Board

I was wondering what the difference is between the low dollar monitors and the high dollar ones. Do any of you have any recommendations for one and where to buy them?

I have one from Costco by a company called Omron (i think that is the name)which seems to work very well. IT is about half the price of the same thing elsewhere. IT has a memory and the battery has lasted a long time. I have brought it to the doctors office and they have checked it against theirs and teh reading was similar.

I'm very happy with my Omron model HEM-711, which I bought at Wal-Mart for less than $50. I also have a Reli-On, a Wal-Mart brand which is made by Omron, but had some problems with it. It works fine when my BP is good, but would often give an error message when my blood pressure was up a bit, like a systolic in the 150s. Others on this board have also mentioned having that same problem. So I would NOT recommend that, even though I understand it was mentioned favorably in Consumers Reports.

For greater accuracy, I'd recommend a monitor with an arm cuff, not one which measures at the wrist or finger.

I'm also using the Omron model HEM-711 and am very pleased with it's easy operation and memory to keep checking from day to day. Also bought it at Wall-mart, best price I could find. I always take it along to the doctor and the comparison is very close, also so easy to pack when traveling.

I just got the Omron HEM712, needed large cuff for hubby, very easy to use.
