I need another CCB - High & Low Blood Pressure Message Board

Hello,

I have used Norvasc 5 mg daily and had no side effects but also no effect on my blood pressure and now I'm on Cardiazim 120 mg but my blood pressure still 130/95 and I want try another CCB because as far as I have seen it has no side effects on me so what's my next CCB?

Have you tried verapamil? It is reasonably inexpensive and my mom takes it. It lowers her bp somewhat, but she takes other bp meds as well.

The CCB my son takes is nifedipine PA (Prolonged Action), it is also known as Adalat. He doesn't seem to have any side effects from it, but he's on other BP meds as well.

GENERIC NAME: diltiazem
BRAND NAMES: Cardizem, Dilacor, Tiazac

I use the brand name Dilacor. For me there are no side effects. In combination with a diuretic and Diovan (Valsartan) my pressure is down from an alarming 240/140 to 115/65. I do have morning and evening spikes at times, 150+/90+, but never the high, high levels I had previously on other meds. Norvasc never lowered my pressure and caused constant swelling of my feet!! I'm not sure the Diovan really does anything for me. I will be seeing Doc on 3/21 and will ask if I can drop it to see what happens. Good luck on your search for a new CCb that works for you. Hi,

I think I will have to try verapamil

and see what will happen. I really like that drug class and I can't be on anything else because all the other drug classes causes many side effects that I can't live with
