A good article on Science Daily (3/27) about a clinical trial study (UC Davis) on 24 male / female subjects with high blood pressure and for 30 days using ''Grapeseed Extract'' saw a drop in Systolic pressure of 12 millimeter points and a Diastolic pressure drop of 8 millimeter points using 150 mgs daily. A few years ago, they did a study on female rats and found that grapeseed extract lowered BP in hypertensive rats but only if they consumed large amounts of salt. Those on a low salt diet showed no effect.
I wonder how many grape seeds 150 mg of extract represents?
I see that the study was specifically with people who had metabolic syndrome. And that they are now planning to test grape seed extract with people who are in the range of prehypertension rather than hypertension. It will be interesting to see the results of that. I wish that this study had had a larger sample size. Just twenty-four subjects is a really, really small study, so will obviously need replication on a larger scale before we can reach any conclusions. At least it is promising, though.

In my Basic Nutrition class at the community college, my professor said that was what canola oil was made from, grape seeds. She said it was called canola oil bcuz Canada discovered it. Is this true?
