Toprol XL - High & Low Blood Pressure Message Board

Hi my doctor has put me on Toprol XL to lower my BP it has recently been consistant at about 142/93 and I also have a sluggish thyroid and have been put on Synthroid 50mg and I also take Cymbalta and Neurontin for depression. I was wondering what the side effects of Toprol are. Or does anyone else take any combination of these meds.

Alas, some of the side effects of beta blockers are weariness, fatigue and DEPRESSION...not exactly what you need.

The Toprol doesn't seem to be working too well; perhaps another drug might work better. Have you considered a diuretic or an ACE inhibitor...both more pleasant to take (unless the ACEI makes you cough) than a beta blocker.

I agree with Lenin. My mom took toprol xl for three or four yrs, and she never had deprssion until she started the toprol xl. It took a long time b4 she finally got the right bp med to control her bp. She's taking clonidine .01 3x daily/avapro 75/and an ocassional toresemide.

Blood pressure meds are hit or miss. Good luck and hope you find something that works for you.
