Bottom number is never under 130

I am so worried. My bp is always at stroke level, around 190/130. I wonder if today is the day I have my stroke and my kids have no mother. I'm on 3 meds and it is always stroke level. Any advice?

Surely your DR is concerned? Get to a specialist quickly. You need to be tested for hp causes that aren't responsive to medication and have your medication evaluated right away.

have the doctor switch you to diff meds that really control your blood pressure ......i agree that those numbers are sky high......tell your dr to switch meds and find some that really work for you ...i mean at least 135/85....if he shows no concern..then switch doctor. good luck and i'll pray for you

First of all, I agree that you should definitely consult your dr. Also, consider making significant lifestyle changes if you are not already doing so.

If you smoke, quit.

Diet is also a big factor that affects blood pressure. I recommend reading a diet book by Dr. Ornish. He advocates a vegetarian diet that limits fat to 10% of daily calories and practically eliminates saturated fat. His diet is not easy to follow, but your bp numbers are high enough so you might want to try something new.

My bp is now under control with medication, but I tried Dr. Ornish's diet for a few months. My bp dropped from 155 / 90 to 133 / 70 after I followed the diet for a few weeks, but I didn't have the discipline to stay on his diet.

Good luck.

Re: Bottom number is never under 130

kathy, you are young to have hbp, but my mom has been having severe bp readings also. A few months ago, her bp went up to 234/106 and no matter what med she took, her bp would only drop to 190/96.

What I discovered is that she was taking all her meds (thyroid, bp, cholesterol and supplements) together in the morning. That evening at sat down and did a drug tracker and discovered that some meds cannot be taken together (they will cancel each other out). So I made a schedule for my mom to take her pills. Thyroid pill at 5 am...clonidine with breakfast, wait four hours take verapamil (to avoid calcuim); Take supplements at lunch. Since that time, her bp had dropped from 234/106 to 130/80. She has not had another episode of high readings...

Why not do a drug search and a drug tracker of all your meds and supplements to be sure there isn't any problems. Good luck.
