Husband's BP 143/104....Answers please

Hi,

My husband was diagnosed with HBP around 2001. BP meds so far haven't gotten it lower than app 150/80- 90's.

He had a lot of tests a year ago and everything was okay - a really small leak but nothing to worry about.

Yesterday at work he had an EKG and was told there was an irregularity, something about air flow ? His BP was 160 ?/108. He was told to see his doctor.

He just had it checked at work and it was 143/104. He was told to take another diuretic and see the doctor. He said he had an appointment Monday but was told to go tomorrow.

He will be going tomorrow !!

Can anyone please tell me what may be going on.

Thanks

rw,

Well, he clearly has hypertension and should be treating it. What drug/drugs is he taking to control it?

Re: Husband's BP 143/104....Answers please

He takes Lisinopril and HCTZ. I was worried more about the bottom number.
Everyone seem to think that was really not good. Hopefully he will get a work in today instead of Monday. He is a police officer so it bothers me him out there with a BP problem. It can get stressful out there

Thanks for the reply !

Re: Husband's BP 143/104....Answers please

Hello,

I'm sorry that your hasband has a problem with his blood pressure, I hope that he will feel better soon. You haven't told us about his eating style, does you like fast food? does you eat a lot of fruits and vegetables? what about salt intake?

I'm on one medication which is not effective 100% so I need to maintain a good diet and exercise 5 days a week and of course be in a good weight. My blood pressure is 120/80 in summer and I hope in the next winter I will take it below 140/90, because the cold weather raises BP level.
Thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael,

Our diet hasn't been like it should but that is going to change !

He went to the doc today and he said the EKG was not bad, that nothing indicated a heart attack, etc. He also added another BP med to see if that would help.

But back to my statement above.....

For about a year we walked a mile or more almost every day. We ate right and cut out almost all the junk food. Once a week we would have a treat. We both lost weight, felt good, and his BP was great ! But as a lot do, we went back to the old ways. SO we know what we have to do.

I know I can do it for myself and my husband. When I first started having a fast heart rate I was scared to eat/drink anything with caffeine. I went a year without chocolate (I love it ) and no coffee, tea, etc. I also had to give up shrimp after a severe reaction (I love it more than chocolate if that is possible) Anyway, my point being, it has been done, and can be done again.

Our health is a lot more important than a few minutes of pleasure that you get from a cany bar.

Thanks for the reply. Hope eveything is good with you.
