What does high systolic mean for a 32 yr. old male? - High & Low Blood Pressure Message Board

Who is otherwise healthy? I've always suffered from white coat syndrome, which has manifested itself as a high systolic and normal or below normal dystolic (160/68, for example, at one visit). This high reading is always accompanied by classic anxiety symptoms-dry mouth, pounding and rapid heartbeat, stomach upset, etc.

Then when relaxed, of course, it is normal. Thanks.

When you say relaxed it's normal; is this in the doctor's office or are you testing at home? I have the same problem, I test my pressure at home 142/76; then at the doctor's office it will in the high 160's/78. Now my last visit 6/29, when the nurse took the pressure it was 144/76, but when he took it, it was 162/78, he said he will take my reading and his nurse's to enter on my chart. He also mentioned the white coat syndrome. I have also taken my monitor with me to double check it against his and it is always higher when with him.

Either-but very rarely am I relaxed in the doctor's office. When I take it elsewhere, I am relaxed, and get 120/72 to 68 readings.

Though it's easier to say than to do, you must FORGET about the readings you get in a doctors office (easy part) and to make sure your DOCTOR does the same (HARD part.)

If your BP is normal when resting at home, it's NORMAL.
